I think we can all agree that Henry Cavill's return as Superman is long overdue but the British actor's status in the DC Extended Universe still remains a mystery. Reports claim that Cavill is still under contract with Warner Bros. but as it stands, the studio doesn't seem to have any plans of bringing back his version of the Man of Steel to the big screen anytime soon which is a complete shame when you think about it.

Interestingly, The Suicide Squad director James Gunn may have actually included a little sequence in his upcoming DC film involving Supes. The acclaimed Marvel director recently took to social media to celebrate Superman Day and when asked by a fan if there's any chance the mighty Kryptonian will appear in his film, Gunn revealed that Kal-El had an encounter with Bloodsport which led to him getting hospitalized.

Gunn claims that Bloodsport shot Superman with a Kryptonite bullet which led to him being put in the ICU. However, he did clarify that the villain, played by Idris Elba came up short in killing Clark Kent which doesn't really come as a surprise. Check out his response here:

Gunn's remark doesn't exactly confirm whether or not Superman actually appears in the film but it's safe to assume that he would have wanted to include the character in the film. While I wouldn't exactly bet on Cavill making his DCEU return in The Suicide Squad, a flashback scene depicting Bloodsport and the Man of Steel's epic encounter would be awesome to witness.

The Suicide Squad hits theaters and HBO Max this August.
