The Mandalorian Season 2 pretty much confirmed that Moff Gideon isn't the biggest threat to Din Djarin and Grogu. During Rosario Dawson's internet-breaking debut as Ahsoka Tano, it was teased that iconic villain Grand Admiral Thrawn is lurking somewhere, ready to strike when he needs to.

Of course, fans were delighted by the revelation especially the avid followers of Star Wars Rebels. It even led some people to start their respective fan casts and so far, Lars Mikkelsen who voiced the character in Rebels and Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch are the top contenders for the role.

Apparently, that's not the case as entertainment site Pirates & Princesses is reporting that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are in serious talks with a surprising actor — none other than Robert Downey Jr. The Iron Man actor seems to be an odd choice for Thrawn considering we've seen him play a Marvel hero for over a decade but the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that he could nail the part.

For now, nothing has been officially confirmed so take it with a grain of salt. It also wasn't specified whether Thrawn appears in The Mandalorian Season 3 or a different Lucasfilm project but as it stands, it's almost a guarantee that the devious character will finally make his way to live-action. Considering Tano has a score to settle with him, I also wouldn't mind seeing Thrawn debut in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is slated for release in 2022.
