Seven months following Gina Carano's controversial firing from Disney and Lucasfilm, the fate of her Star Wars character Cara Dune is still shrouded by mystery. Of course, Dune is one of the main protagonists of The Mandalorian and you can't just write her off the series without a believable explanation. Season 3 is set to begin production soon and we still have no clue as to what the production company has in store for the character.

Carano's issues with both Disney and Lucasfilm have gone too personal and it would be safe to assume that the former mixed martial arts fighter won't get anywhere near the franchise despite recent rumblings that she has been rehired by the House of Mouse.

While her avid supporters have been demanding for her reinstatement in the Star Wars franchise, other fans are calling for Lucasfilm to find a new actress that will play the role moving forward. Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless has been a top contender for the role amongst fans and with Carano out of the picture, a lot of them believe that she should be the one to continue Cara Dune's story in the MandoVerse.

Turns out, the television icon is well aware of the fan castings and even revealed that she was once in the running for a Star Wars-related project but not The Mandalorian. According to Lawless, the fan castings have hurt her career to some extent and it looks like she's not interested in portraying Cara even if presented with the opportunity.

During an interview with Metro, she said: "It might have hurt me in some way because then they couldn't hire me because it would seem to be pandering to… I'm just guessing here, I don't know anything, but in some ways, it can be unhelpful, because if they pander to this fan group, then how are you going to pander to every other fan group, do you know what I mean?"

Long before Carano got ousted from the Star Wars franchise, a lot of fans have been clamoring for Lawless to take her place in the MandoVerse but let's be honest, that is easier said than done. Personally, I'd be fine if they killed off Dune instead of recasting the character. I mean, let's face it, no actor would want to live in Carano's shadow.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is expected to begin filming soon.
