A lot of us thought it would never happen again but Michael Keaton is making his triumphant return as the caped crusader in Andy Muschietti's The Flash. Announced at last year's DC FanDome, the project will be loosely based on the Flashpoint storyline from the comics which is arguably one of the best modern-day DC stories. After years in developmental hell, the Ezra Miller-led project finally began filming this year, and judging by the leaked set images we've seen so far, it already looks extremely promising.

As it stands, we still know very little about Keaton's involvement in the project although several sources have claimed that it won't be a one-off appearance for the Hollywood icon. In fact, with The Flash reportedly giving the DC Extended Universe a major overhaul, Keaton is rumored to be sticking around in the franchise, officially replacing Ben Affleck's version of Batman.

Speaking of the Dark Knight, Muschietti once again took to social media to deliver some hype ahead of October's second FanDome event. On Instagram, the director unveiled a teaser of Keaton's Batsuit draped in Flash's colors, and to call it intriguing would be a hell of an understatement. It even has Barry Allen's signature emblem. A Batman comeback for Michael Keaton 30 years after he "retired" the cape and cowl was the last thing we'd expect to happen and it just goes to show that anything can happen in the world of comic book movies. As a huge Keaton fan myself, I'm genuinely thrilled about his appearance in The Flash and I have a huge feeling that we'll be seeing more of him in the DCEU.

The Flash is slated for release in November 2022.
