It's crazy to think that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a show that pretty much revolves around the history, future, and legacy of Captain America has only featured minor references to Steve Rogers and it almost feels like they are purposely ignoring that the MCU's "original" star-spangled man ever existed.

As it stands, Rogers' true status following Avengers: Endgame remains unclear but the general belief within the fandom is that he's actually dead by the time the series takes place. Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes have namedropped him on a number of occasions over the course of the show but still, fans are left intrigued.

Episode 5 may have offered hints about what actually happened to Rogers following Endgame and they don't seem promising at all. In the episode, as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes were discussing the legacy of the shield, the Falcon went on to say: "I understand that, but Steve is gone. This might be a surprise, but it doesn't matter what Steve thought." Now, the term "gone" could mean a lot of things but it may imply that Steve is actually dead.

Naturally, fans took to Twitter to express their confusion about the matter but the majority of fans are already convinced that Rogers is no longer alive in the current MCU timeline. Check out some of the reactions here:

Personally, I'm not holding out my hope that the Captain America we all know and love could still be alive but given the physical state he's in when he came back from the Quantum Realm after returning the Infinity Stones, it's safe to assume that he was already on borrowed time. But how shocking would it be if he actually returns in the shape and form we're all used to seeing him in? I mean, this is Marvel we're talking about after all. Anything is possible.

The latest episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is now streaming on Disney+.
