His portrayal of the Man of Steel may not have been a hundred percent accurate and faithful to its source material, but it can't be denied that Tom Welling's take on Superman is still regarded by many as one of the best live-action versions of the iconic DC character. Not only that, but it also helped shape a generation of avid Superman fans. Welling enjoyed a 10-year run as Supes in the hit superhero series Smallville and a full decade after the show went off the air, fans are still clamoring for him to make a comeback.

Welling did appear in a cameo role in the Arrowverse's epic Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. The generally positive response his mini return generated may have been the catalyst for his actual return to the role. In a stunning new development, Tom revealed that Smallville is actually set for renewal only this time, it'll be in animated series form.

In a recent appearance on the popular video shout-out application Cameo, the 44-year-old actor revealed that he and co-star Michael Rosenbaum are currently developing a cartoon spinoff series based on the beloved Superman show. Other details about the project are unavailable as of writing but according to Welling. they are doing everything in their power to bring the original cast members back together for the project. This is exciting news especially for the folks who closely followed the series. I also like the fact that they're continuing Clark's story through an animated series because let's face it, DC's television offerings haven't been that great with the exception of a few shows. Hopefully, we get more information about the project real soon.

Meanwhile, Superman & Lois is available for streaming on the CW app.
