Star Wars: Patty Jenkins Boasts Creative Control Over Rogue Squadron

It's pretty safe to say that the entire Star Wars fandom had mixed reactions after learning that Patty Jenkins is set to work with Lucasfilm on the upcoming Rogue Squadron project.

Of course, a lot of the skepticism has something to do with Jenkins' previous film Wonder Woman 1984 failing to hit the mark with fans and critics but to be totally fair, the director had a well-documented minor dispute with Warner Bros. that ultimately affected the creative direction of the DC Extended Universe flick.

But now, Patty is set to undergo a rebirth of some sort now that she's joining the Star Wars franchise. She previously said that Rogue Squadron will usher in a new era in the franchise and apparently, the confidence stems from the fact that she has creative control over the project.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she exciting shared: "It's going amazing. I had been on it already for six months before I even announced that, so we're pretty deep into it. We're finishing a script, crewing up, and it's all going wonderful. I'm so excited about the story and excited that we're the next chapter of Star Wars, which is such a responsibility and such an opportunity to really start some new things. It's really exciting in that way."

Jenkins added: "It's an entirely different way of working. I'm on the phone with all of them and doing Zoom meetings with everybody involved in Star Wars all the time. I'm fairly free to do the story that we want to do, but you really need to know who's done what, who's doing what, where it goes and how it works, and what designs have been done before. It's a whole other way of working that I'm getting up to speed on."

Personally, I'm excited to see what Patty brings to the table and I'm not going to let one "failure" be the deciding factor whether or not she's qualified enough to helm a Star Wars project. I gotta say though, she's definitely carrying all the pressure in the galaxy right now considering Rogue Squadron will be the first Star Wars film after the sequel trilogy ended. I have complete faith that she'll deliver and hopefully, Jenkins will be able to remove the bitter taste the sequels left in our mouths.

Rogue Squadron is under development.
