J.J. Abrams has always been seen by a lot of film fans as a science fiction visionary all thanks to his involvement in the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises but some fans are wondering when he'll start taking on comic book films. One would assume that it'll happen in the future but as it turns out, the acclaimed director has zero plans of helming such projects anytime soon despite the fact that he's set to produce the upcoming Superman reboot over at WarnerMedia.

Speaking with Collider, Abrams said that the idea of him directing a DC movie doesn't exactly appeal to him and he has a valid reason for it. According to him, he'd much rather direct an original than take on a pre-existing property under the DC banner. He explains: "I know that Hollywood is a place where it used to be that people would be inspired by something that they would see or an old film or a show or something and think, ‘Oh, here's my response to that. Here's a version of that.' It's become a place where, more often than not, you see something and people get inspired by it and go, ‘Let's redo that exact thing.'"

"I feel like, as someone who started writing on television and telling original stories on film and on TV, it is something that I really do miss. The few things that I'm working on now, as a writer, are original ideas. I just feel, as a director, I really would love to have my next projects be things that didn't pre-exist me necessarily."

Abrams raises a pretty valid argument but you know what they say, never say never. The chances of him taking on a DC project and directing is almost guaranteed especially if his upcoming Superman reboot ends up becoming successful. Personally, I'd love to see him direct a comic book film just for the heck of it. Despite the fact that the Star Wars prequels "flopped", his work on Star Trek pretty much solidified him as a brilliant filmmaker and I'd love to see his approach to the superhero genre.

Other details about J.J. Abrams' Superman reboot are still being kept under wraps.
