Star Wars Actor Mark Hamill Doesn't Think the Prequels are as Bad as the Sequel Trilogy

Star Wars icon Mark Hamill has been vocal about his feelings about Disney's divisive sequel trilogy, most especially the way his character Luke Skywalker was handled. Shockingly enough, he doesn't feel the same way about the equally controversial prequel trilogy which ran from 1999 to 2005. In fact, Hamill had nice things to say about the trilogy which gave us films like The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith.

According to Hamill himself, he was particularly a fan of the fact that the prequel trilogy had its own identity, seemingly implying that the sequel trilogy didn't have any. When asked about the prequels during an interview for J.W. Rinzler's biography about producer Howard G. Kazanjian (via ComicBookMovie), Hamill said that the prequel films were only on the receiving end of criticism because they weren't as "commercial" as the original Star Wars trilogy.

He said: "I was impressed the prequels had their own identity," he said. "They were criticized because they were exposition-heavy and more cerebral and probably, like he said back in 1976, they weren't as commercial. It's a darker story. But in the age of social media, people's voices are amplified, and I'm shocked at how brutal they can be, not just in the case of Star Wars films, but across the board."

By no means is the prequel trilogy as good as the original. In fact, it had its fair share of issues much like the sequels but through the years, fans have seemingly warmed up to it. It'll be interesting to see though if the Star Wars fandom will change its mind about the sequels years from now but it's worth pointing out that both trilogies received a tremendous amount of fan backlash.
