The Marvel Cinematic Universe's third Spider-Man film is shaping up to be the must-see movie of the year and even lead star Tom Holland made a pretty bold claim about the project being the "most ambitious superhero film" in existence.

Diehard webheads have been speculating for months now that the film will pretty much be the MCU's answer to Sony's hit animated blockbuster Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and it isn't hard to understand why fans are hyped up considering we'll get to see familiar faces return for the sequel.

Two names heavily rumored to make appearances in the film are ex-Spidey actors Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. We've reported recently that Garfield was spotted in Atlanta which serves as the second location for the project while Maguire is said to be playing hard to get which is reportedly rubbing a lot of people the wrong way. Holland recently came out to debunk rumors surrounding the two actors' casting.

Insider Grace Randolph is now reporting that after months of grueling negotiations, Maguire has indeed signed on to return as Spider-Man for Homecoming 3. Not only that, the actor has reportedly begun filming his scenes for the project.

Randolph also claims that while there are no plans to break the news right away, it's only a matter of time before Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures make the much-awaited announcement.

Of course, take this claim with a huge grain of salt but you also have to take into consideration Randolph's track record of accuracy when it comes to her insider scoops.

If anything, this proves that Tom Holland was just trying to play coy all this time, possibly to avoid spilling major spoilers, and quite frankly, he has every right to do so. I'm not saying I'm 100% buying into the rumors but now that it came from a pretty credible source, my faith has totally been restored.

Hopefully, we finally get the confirmation we've been dying to hear from both studios one of these days. Just thinking about the announcement and how it could potentially break the internet already excites me.

Homecoming 3 is slated for release in December.
