Smallville Actor Tom Welling Expresses Desire to Play Superman in Matt Reeves' The Batman

Tom Welling is widely regarded by DC fans as the best live-action version of Superman and while his portrayal wasn't exactly "traditional" by any means, the fact that his show Smallville lasted for 10 strong seasons says a lot. The series finale which aired a decade ago teased the actor donning the Man of Steel's iconic suit but that's about it. He would later make a jaw-dropping cameo appearance in the Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths as Clark Kent and judging by his physical shape, fans believe that he still has some gas left in the tank to reprise the role full-time.

Apparently, even though he's long retired the Kryptonian mantle, Welling would still be interested in returning as Superman and this time around, on the big screen. During an interview on the El Mundo geek de Ernestoneitor YouTube channel, the actor said that he'd love to take on the role again and become the Superman to Robert Pattinson's Batman in Matt Reeves' The Batman film which takes place in Earth-2.

He said: "Yeah, I think that would be cool. My buddy Rob Pattinson, is going to be the new Batman. I would love it... it would be fun to be the Superman that shows up in his movie, just because he is a friend of mine. Yeah, who knows."

The dynamic between Welling's Superman and Pattinson's Batman would be interesting, to say the least, and considering Matt Reeves is exploring a different kind of Gotham and an entirely new DC universe in general, the idea of an older version of the Man of Steel teaming up with a caped crusader who's on his rookie years would be cool to see. However, it's all just wishful thinking at this point and if the rumors are to be believed, Earth-2 is also set to feature a brand new Superman not named Clark Kent.

Meanwhile, The Batman hits cinemas in 2022.
