A lot of hype is already surrounding the DC Extended Universe's upcoming Shazam! sequel and it all began last week after set images emerged online featuring Zachary Levi's upgraded suit. Now, we still don't know what happens in Shazam! Fury of the Gods but a lot of fans are hopeful that the project will give us our first taste of the anticipated big-screen clash between Billy Batson and Teth-Adam.

Considering Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Black Adam film comes out before Fury of the Gods, it's safe to assume that there's plenty of time to set up the encounter between the Earth's Mightiest Mortal and the Man in Black and the idea of it taking place in the upcoming Shazam! project wouldn't be too farfetched to actually believe. However, director David F. Sandberg has already crushed any hope that The Rock will appear in the project.

Answering some fan questions on his Instagram stories (via The Direct), the acclaimed horror director insisted that the former WWE superstar won't be involved in Fury of the Gods as "he has his own movie." Sandberg has previously revealed that he's not in any way involved in the creation of Black Adam, claiming that he's not even aware of the film's actual plot which seems a little odd considering it would tie directly into Shazam!'s current story.

I'm not gonna lie, it would be a huge bummer if we don't get to see any trace of Black Adam in the next Shazam! film but it's quite obvious that DC is aiming for long-term storytelling and I guess that's the right call. I'm pretty sure when the time finally comes, the years of wait will be all worth it.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is expected to hit cinemas in June 2023.
