The entire comic book fandom is still buzzing over the announcement that Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and her first assignment would be the upcoming Secret Invasion series led by Samuel L. Jackson as the returning Nick Fury. Following her successful stint in the hit HBO fantasy series, a lot of people were under the impression that it was only a matter of time before she explores another franchise. Lo and behold, she's now in the MCU.

The MCU community has been guessing since yesterday which character Emilia could end up playing. With Secret Invasion seemingly focusing on the Skrulls and their possible evil turn in the franchise, a lot of fans are speculating that the actress could actually be portraying the role of Veranke and given her role in GOT as the Mother of Dragons, I believe that she'll be a pretty convincing Skrull Queen.

However, Geekosity reports that Emilia is actually playing a hero in the series who has strong connections with the organization S.W.O.R.D. According to their source, the actress has been cast as Marvel hero Abigail Brand, a mutant character who is depicted as commander of S.W.O.R.D. in the comics. Not a lot of people are familiar with the character who made her debut in 2004 but to longtime readers of the comics, she's a standout character.

While the idea of Emilia bringing the Skrull Queen to life in the MCU sounds interesting, I guess a star of her caliber would be a better fit as a protagonist. And considering the X-Men are coming to the MCU real soon, it makes all the sense in the world for Marvel Studios to slowly build its mutant roster which already includes Wanda Maximoff who has been retconned in WandaVision.

Secret Invasion is in active development.
