Fans of the Star Wars franchise have been rallying behind Sebastian Stan for years now to play a version of Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker post-Return of the Jedi and a lot of them were let down when Lucasfilm resorted to using CGI and motion capture technology on Luke for his grand arrival in The Mandalorian Season 2's finale.

Aside from the actor who plays Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, another Marvel actor is being heavily rumored to jump ship to the Star Wars universe to play an iconic villain. We reported last week that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are eyeing Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. to play Grand Admiral Thrawn, possibly in an origin film.

Now, could you imagine if Favreau and Filoni adapted the iconic Thrawn story Heir to the Empire by author Timothy Zahn in The Mandalorian Season 3? It was teased in Ahsoka's episode that she's on the lookout for Thrawn and there's little doubt that the menacing villain could turn up in either The Mandalorian or the standalone Ahsoka series to of course wreak havoc in the galaxy.

The possibility of it happening in live-action form is depicted in an awesome fan-made Star Wars: Heir to the Empire poster that we spotted on Instagram. The image features Stan as the famed Jedi Master and RDJ as Thrawn along with Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Rosario Dawson, and Gina Carano. We're not quite sure who came up with the artwork but it's pretty freaking awesome! Check out the epic artwork here.

We still know very little about The Mandalorian's third season but judging by the stuff we saw from its predecessor, one thing's for sure, Season 2 will be mega hard to top. But hey, I'm pretty sure the duo of Jon and Dave can totally outdo themselves and it's not like they haven't surprised us on multiple occasions already.

The Mandalorian Season 3 will reportedly hit Disney+ in 2022.
