Netflix Boss Sides with Black Widow Star Scarlett Johansson Amid Disney Lawsuit

The shocking lawsuit Scarlett Johansson filed against Disney over Black Widow's release model still has the entire entertainment industry buzzing. In case you've been living under a rock the last couple of months, the MCU actress is accusing Disney of breaching their contract in relation to the film's release via Disney+'s Premier Access feature. As it stands, we've yet to get new updates regarding the matter but don't mistake both camp's silence for reconciliation because I'm pretty sure they have yet to reach a resolution.

Even Netflix boss Ted Sarandos is sounding off amid the issue and the streaming mogul is backing Johansson up. Speaking with New York Times columnist Kara Swisher (via Deadline), Sarandos was asked about the heated legal battle between the actress and the House of Mouse and according to him, the actress should be compensated for Disney's hybrid release.

He explains: "I watch these things as a spectator I would have said this or said that. I'm fortunate that we have not been in those shoes." Sarandos added: "Talent has to be respected and compensated."

Scarlett's career surely won't be going down the drain despite her legal issues with Disney but it can't be denied that losing a lucrative partnership with one of the biggest production companies in Hollywood could somehow hurt her career in the long run. And with Marvel Studios fully embracing the multiverse, Johansson might have hurt her chances of ever reprising her Black Widow role. Sure, a reconciliation could still happen but by the looks of things, it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Black Widow is currently available on Blu-ray and digital.
