Many fans believe that Peggy Carter is among the more underutilized characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but what some people tend to forget is that following her appearances in Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, actress Hayley Atwell headlined her own ABC series Agent Carter which ran for two seasons. However, it doesn't look like Marvel Studios considers the series canon to the MCU despite it being set in Earth-616.

Ahead of the beloved character's much-awaited appearance as Captain Carter in the animated series What If...?, Marvel Studios released a special Marvel Legends episode centered on the feisty agent and one of the founding members of SHIELD. Intriguingly, the studio seemed to ignore the actress' ties to the Agent Carter series show as the eight-minute featurette doesn't include any scenes from the hit Marvel spinoff show.

Interestingly, the official banner for the said episode features Peggy's iconic red hat from the show, something that we never saw the character wear in the Marvel movies. Still, it begs the question: is Agent Carter no longer considered as canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

It's not the first time Marvel Studios chose to ignore projects that weren't exactly overseen by Kevin Feige and his crew so the possibility that Agent Carter could no longer be considered canon to the billion-dollar franchise wouldn't shock me at all. I mean, let's be honest, most of the MCU's casual fans have only seen the movies so I guess the spinoff shows pre-Disney+ era don't hold that much relevance.

Meanwhile, What If...? will premiere on August 11 only on Disney+.
