There's no doubt that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier signals a changing of the guard in the MCU but instead of us getting Sam Wilson aka The Falcon as the new Captain America, we were introduced to a new face named John Walker (played by Wyatt Russell) who was appointed by the U.S. government to take on the mantle of the star-spangled Avenger. Some fans are willing to give him a chance but Episode 2 quickly established that the character is someone who was meant to be despised.
Apparently, Russell had a pretty interesting idea which Marvel Studios ultimately turned down. In a new interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the son of legendary actor and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Kurt Russell revealed that he wanted to wear Chris Evans' Captain America suit in the series. He didn't exactly go into detail about why the studio denied his request but he was instead given a brand new costume.
Russell explains: "I requested Chris Evans' old suit, so I could feel like I was doing a good job since he did such a great job. And they gave me a new one." He later revealed that the suit is actually quite uncomfortable to wear. He added: "It's presentational in effect ... And I am kind of a slouchy guy, so it is like the first piece locks [straight up] and the second piece zips up and locks [in] like that. You're underneath the suit, but it looks cool."
Honestly, Wyatt's idea would have been perfect and now that I think about it, I feel like Marvel Studios missed the boat not having him wear Evans' original Captain America gear. Not only would it generate massive heat from fans who already hate the "new" Cap, but it will also establish John Walker as a more unlikeable character, and quite frankly, isn't that the plan, to begin with?
