We're all aware by now that Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe but a lot of intrigue still surrounds the fourth-wall-breaking outlaw's arrival to the franchise and the general concern amongst fans is that Marvel Studios might end up watering down the character to fit their family-friendly product.
Now, in a promising new update, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige finally confirmed what we've all been hoping for since Disney's acquisition of Fox. In a recent interview with Collider, Feige revealed that Deadpool 3 will in fact take place in the MCU and it will be R-rated. Feige also confirmed that Ryan will be heavily involved in the film's creative decision. In fact, he's overseeing the early script they're working on. Feige said: "It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan's overseeing a script right now."
However, don't expect Mr. Pool's third film to drop in the near future as Feige himself confirmed that they won't be filming anytime soon due to Reynolds' packed schedule. "It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we've already announced that we now have to make, but it's exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."
The MCU's current phase is stacked with years-worth of films and series that could last them up to 2023 so Kevin Feige's decision to sideline Deadpool 3, for now, is pretty understandable. It's also worth noting that the X-Men's debut is still left undisclosed so the potential of Mr. Pool arriving with the mutants is incredibly high. Who knows, he might even be responsible for bringing them into the MCU which makes absolute sense.
The MCU's fourth phase kicks off with WandaVision, hitting Disney+ this January 15.
