Marvel Star Emily VanCamp Admits Sharon and Steve's Civil War Kiss Didn't Make Sense

Captain America: Civil War triumphed in a lot of ways but a lot of us can agree on this, it wasn't that successful in sailing the "ship" between Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter who shared a controversial scene towards the climactic part of the film. The 2016 blockbuster saw Rogers and Peggy Carter's niece share an intimate moment in front of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as they were attempting to flee Germany en route to Siberia.

Since then, the relationship between Sharon and Steve was left unaddressed and even The Falcon and the Winter Soldier didn't bother revisiting what exactly went down between the two. Now, actress Emily VanCamp is once again sounding off on the divisive sequence and even she had to admit that a romantic fling between Captain America and Agent 13 didn't click.

In an interview with Collider, VanCamp said that she had second thoughts about doing the scene but she ended up trusting the Russo Brothers and hope the "kiss" would later have a grand payoff. She explains: "You sort of trust and hope that it all makes sense in the end. I did have a few moments where I wondered, 'Are we going too far with this? Should this be more of an amicable, friendly moment?' I didn't really know. I don't think any of us really knew. I don't think it's anyone's fault that it didn't totally work in terms of the story. I don't think anyone knew where that was headed or what we were going to do with that moment. It was a sweet moment as it was."

The scene didn't exactly lead to anything and it pretty much proved that it was an experiment that was doomed to fail from the start. But it's great that it didn't define Sharon as a character and now, she onto bigger and grander things as the Power Broker. But could you imagine if Marvel Studios went all-in with the romance between Steve and Sharon? That would've been something else.

Meanwhile, all episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are available on Disney+.
