Avid fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are generally stoked for the return of Natalie Portman in Thor: Love and Thunder and to those who are still unaware. not only is Jane Foster making a comeback, but she's also set to wield Thor's mighty Mjolnir in a move heavily inspired by her solo comics run.

Now, according to a new report, Jane's transition from being a mere mortal to the new God, or should I say Goddess of Thunder will have serious repercussions that have long term effects on her character. ScreenRant speculates that the Taika Waititi-directed film will indeed feature Foster's battle with cancer but they could be tweaking the plot a bit. In the comics, Jane's cancer diagnosis is hereditary but in the fourth Thor film, she's likely going to get the illness from her use of the mystical hammer. Again, that is just mere speculation for now so take everything with a grain of salt.

It's also worth noting that Portman somewhat teased the fate of her character in a previous interview so all signs point to Jane Foster battling the disease in the upcoming film. The only question is, will she survive it just like her comic book counterpart, or are the folks over at Marvel Studios once again setting up something tragic? Hopefully not as our Asgardian hero still has some unfinished business with his former flame. And with Kevin Feige reportedly toying with the idea of doing an all-female Avengers film, Jane Foster as Thor would be a lovely addition.
