Mark Hamill Says This Star Wars Meme Makes Him 'Cringe Every Time'

Star Wars fans are no stranger to the viral meme from Episode IV - A New Hope which sees Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker pointing his lightsaber in the opposite direction, directly to his face. In the said scene, Obi-Wan Kenobi shows the lightsaber Luke's father used during battle, and naturally, the young Skywalker was astonished beyond belief.

But here's the thing, that "scene" which has been the subject of several memes and jokes throughout the years is not actually in the film, and in fact, it was just a behind-the-scenes image of Mark Hamill shot in between takes. Now, you may remember things differently especially if it's been a long while since you last saw the original Star Wars film or maybe it's just that the meme has gone too viral, you're led to believe that it was part of the film.

Now, Hamill himself has revealed that out of all the Star Wars-related memes he's seen in his life, this one takes the cake as the most ridiculous and it makes him cringe the most. It all started when a fan pointed out that the viral meme makes her laugh every time she sees it to which he responded: "This makes me cringe every time I see it. I don't remember doing this in the movie. I think it's just an on-set production still, otherwise, Obi-Wan wouldn't look so remarkably unconcerned."

Speaking of the famed Jedi Master, several sources have claimed that he's set to get his own Disney+ spin-off series following his successful and goosebumps-inducing cameo in The Mandalorian's Season 2 finale. I, for one, would love to see the character back but I do believe that this time around, they should cast an actual actor to give life to the iconic Star Wars character instead of just relying on CGI magic. Let's see what Lucasfilm does next.

Meanwhile, the entire Skywalker saga is available on Disney+.
