To a lot of Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, the dynamic between Loki and Sylvie is one of the best bits about the standalone Loki series but their odd pairing which ultimately led to an unusual "romance" caused quite a stir within the fandom. While some fans aren't bothered by the thought of the God of Mischief variants falling in love with each other, there are people who feel that the romantic connection between the two is unnecessary and not to mention unsettling.

The "Sylki" ship received major backlash from fans especially after Episode 6 when the pair shared a kiss. Apparently, actress Sophia Di Martino saw it coming from a mile away and according to her, she was prepared for the controversy that would ensue once it was made clear that there's something going on between the two Loki variants.

In a recent conversation with The Wrap, the Sylvie actress said that she knew from the get-go that their romance will generate mixed reactions from fans. She explains: "I kind of expected it to be pretty split and some people to be really into it and just going along with it for the fact that it's a sort of love story. And then I knew there would be some skeptical people who weren't sure."

When asked what she thought about the budding romance between Loki and Sylvie, Sophia said that much like the MCU fandom, she sees it as a form of self-love: "For me, it's kind of an exploration of self-love. It's not as straightforward as just two people falling for each other, who are versions of the same thing."

A lot of fans are against the idea but let's be real here, we've seen crazier things transpire in the MCU. Personally, I think Loki and Sylvie's romance arc is something refreshing and if you'll look at it with a more open mind, you'll realize that there's more to it than just being "unnecessary" or "disgusting". However, I'm sure that the controversy it sparked was enough to get the attention of Marvel Studios and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes unaddressed and ignored in the future.

All episodes of Loki are now streaming on Disney+.
