Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is a creative genius, I think we've pretty much established that over the years but you know, even geniuses have the tendency to go overboard, and apparently, he had some pretty outrageous ideas that thankfully didn't come to fruition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of which was his actual plan to make a drastic aesthetic change to one of the key members of the Guardians.

During his usual Twitter Q&A sesh with fans, Gunn was asked why he decided to change Drax the Destroyer's skin color from green to gray. According to the director, the decision was more of a practical thing more than anything as the color green is the "most difficult color to get to look like actual skin". Not only that but there were already a number of green-skinned characters in the franchise.

Shockingly enough, he also revealed plans of turning Gamora's skin blue. In a subsequent tweet, Gunn revealed that he was close to changing the overall look of Thanos' adopted daughter but Zoe Saldana already appeared as a blue-skinned alien in James Cameron's Avatar and he couldn't risk the character drawing comparison to Neytiri. Check out his explanation here:

Thankfully, his plans of turning Gamora into an actual Smurf didn't push through because it would have been weird seeing the character that way. Speaking of Gamora, we're still not sure if she ends up appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but considering she's still "alive" in the current MCU timeline (her 2014 version, at least), the chances of her turning up and rejoining the Guardians are very likely.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
