James Gunn Confirms Fan-Favorite Character is No Longer Returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Considering the level of secrecy Marvel Studios is known for, it's simply astonishing how Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn hasn't been too shy about dropping important details about his projects on his social media platforms, and more often than not, he would make it a point to engage with fans to either address rumors or just talk about the plans he has for his films whether it be DC or Marvel.

Now, with the third Guardians of the Galaxy film already confirmed to be part of the MCU's future slate, it's safe to assume that Gunn has already laid out the groundwork for the highly-anticipated film which would see the return of our favorite intergalactic heroes.

Speaking of "returns", a lot of fans have actually been clamoring for Michael Rooker's character Yondu to make his way back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future. Of course, we all know that he died in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 by saving Star-Lord but considering it's Marvel we're talking about, anything can certainly happen and if they really wanted to, they can easily resurrect the character.

However, Gunn is totally against the idea of bringing Yondu back to life and according to him, as long as he's attached to the Guardians projects, it will never happen. Responding to a fan on Twitter who asked if he has plans to resurrect Yondu, he said: "As I've said before, Yondu is dead & will stay dead as long as I'm involved with the Guardians. His death means something to people & I'm not about to diminish that."

The MCU's "Mary Poppins" is totally missed but I do agree with Gunn's sentiments. Yondu's heroic act must mean something and bringing him back to life just for the sake of pleasing the fandom will undoubtedly tarnish his sacrifice. I'm not gonna lie though, I'd be down to see him in a flashback or even a dream sequence with Peter Quill.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is in active development.
