Given the fact that Henry Cavill pretty much kickstarted the DC Extended Universe back in 2013, it's only natural for the Man of Steel actor to lead the franchise but as it turns out, that's not the case and he's barely even featured in the DCEU and his current status still remains a mystery. Fans have long been disappointed with how WB has treated the British actor who isn't currently tied to any upcoming DC project. In fact, the studio is currently developing a Superman reboot that isn't going to involve him.
Cavill has reportedly expressed his desire to remain in the franchise as its flagship superhero but with WB seemingly having no clue what to do with him, the next best option for him is to seek projects elsewhere. Now, a new rumor suggests that the star of Netflix's The Witcher could be jumping ship to the Marvel Cinematic Universe real soon, and apparently, he's set for a Phase 4 appearance.
Tipster Daniel Richtman reports via Patreon that Cavill has been cast in Thor: Love and Thunder as Hercules and according to him, he's actually been linked to the project for quite some time now despite other reports claiming that Marvel Studios has been eyeing him to play Captain Britain. Other details about the alleged casting weren't disclosed by Richtman so of course, take it with a huge grain of salt for now.
The idea of Henry playing a lesser-known Marvel character may seem like a downgrade but if the rumors end up being true, at least the actor will be treated like a star in the Marvel realm. Of course, nothing beats playing the Man of Steel on the big screen but considering how huge of a mess the DCEU is right now, I guess the best move for Cavill's career is for him to take his talents to the MCU.
Meanwhile, Thor: Love and Thunder will premiere on May 6, 2022.
