We still know very little about James Gunn's third Guardians of the Galaxy at this point given the fact that production for the film will presumably not begin anytime soon but if there's one thing we learned from the first two films, it's to expect the unexpected. The previous film saw the demise of one of the franchise's key characters Yondu and what could be best described as one of the most emotionally jarring deaths in the franchise. Now, Vol. 3 could also see a similar scenario with one of the Guardians possibly ending his tenure with the team.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista may have confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could mark the end of his journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the former WWE champion, after Guardians 3, he's no longer contractually obligated to stay with Marvel, unless of course, the studio renews his deal. He said: "I mean, as far as my obligations, I've got Guardians 3, and that's probably going to be the end of Drax."
We still don't know what the future holds but it's worth mentioning that rumors have been floating around for months now that GOTG Vol. 3 will kill off a major character and that could in fact be Drax. Honestly, it would be a major letdown if he ended up saying goodbye to the franchise.
If I had things my way, I would love for the Guardians to stay intact until the end of the series and I don't think there's a need to kill one of the originals members of the group especially someone like Drax. Out of all of them, I've always seen Drax as the dark horse of the team, and to me, he has the biggest untapped potential. He could be something more than just comic relief.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit cinemas on May 5, 2023.
