It's amazing to think how Marvel Studios was able to turn the Guardians of the Galaxy from D-list characters into staples of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but all the credit in the world should go to none other than James Gunn who first blew our minds in 2014. Now, after a successful second run with the franchise, it's back to the drawing board for Gunn and his crew as they begin work on Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.

The GOTG director is quite a busy man these days, in fact, he's working on two DCEU projects in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker but of course, he's not forgetting about his MCU duties. Gunn took to Twitter to give MCU fans some much-needed update regarding the third Guardians film. Answering a fan on Twitter asking if he's already working on the movie, he responded: "Script is written and most of the production heads have been hired."

In another tweet, Gunn revealed that even though he's completed the script, he still always makes it a point to tweak his work for "artistic reasons". However, despite the fact that he's tweaking his screenplay, his current piece seems to be good to go.

Now, while Gunn has yet to address when production for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 officially starts, it's safe to assume that he's already working on the pre-production aspect of the project. The third GOTG film is shaping up to be another promising MCU flick and this time around, Star-Lord and his trusty crew will be joined by the Mighty Asgardian Thor and it'll be interesting how the dynamic changes or if it changes at all. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is scheduled for release in 2021.
