The Mandalorian has pretty much kickstarted an important debate in all of pop culture — is there anyone out there who can match Baby Yoda's cuteness? Since the show's debut, a lot of people were instantly enamored by the Force-wielding fellow, and little did Lucasfilm know that the Child aka Grogu would become an overnight mainstream sensation.
Sure, there are several characters out there — from Pokemon's Pikachu to Guardians of the Galaxy's Baby Groot who could potentially give the Child a run for his money but as it stands, there's no doubt that Baby Yoda is currently on top of the food chain, or should we say "cute chain".
However, Gremlins star Zach Galligan begs to differ and according to him, the equally iconic and adorable Gizmo from the hit horror comedy franchise is just as cute as Baby Yoda, if not cuter. Galligan reunited with the fuzzy Mogwai for a Mountain Dew commercial and it's sending '80s film fans into a frenzy.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly to promote their mini on-screen Gremlins reunion, Galligan finally set the record straight and he confidently claims that Gizmo can "out-cute" Mando's trust ally. When asked which creature he thinks is cuter, he said: "I'm going to say my buddy is cuter. He's fuzzier and, to me, fuzzy is cuter. Baby Grogu seems like he's kind of been shaved, or maybe he's hairless."
Galligan also revealed that he's always been asked on social media which character is far more adorable. "Well, if you've looked at my social media, you'll see that there are a couple of memes on there that sort of poke fun at the similarity between Gizmo and Grogu, as we now know his name is. People have been bombarding me on social media with comparatives, scale drawings, and everything, and coming up with all sorts of theories about whether or not there was any kind of conscious decision behind it."
This entire debate is subjective, of course, and at the end of the day, it's just a matter of preference. If you think Gizmo is cuter, good on you but if you think Baby Yoda is much more appealing, there's also nothing wrong with that. It shouldn't be that hard to pick aside.
Meanwhile, all episodes of The Mandalorian are available on Disney+.
