We're now getting new info about Gina Carano's shocking and much-talked-about firing from Lucasfilm one week following the incident. If you haven't been keeping up with the news as of late, the actress was removed from The Mandalorian over her controversial tweets and Instagram posts.
Star Wars' parent production company finally pulled the trigger after an Instagram post from Carano comparing her situation to being a Jew during the holocaust went viral.
In a stunning new development, the former mixed martial arts fighter opened up about her newsmaking termination from the iconic science-fiction franchise. Apparently, Lucasfilm didn't meet with Gina to discuss her future in the Star Wars franchise and the actress was unceremoniously dumped from the company.
In a new interview with Bari Weiss (via Cosmic Book News), Carano claims that she found out about the news of her firing on social media of all places. "That was heartbreaking, but I didn't want to take away from the hard work of everyone who worked on the project, so I said ok. That was the last time I was contacted about any type of public statement or apology from Lucasfilm. I found out through social media, like everyone else, that I had been fired," Gina says.
Now, I don't think Carano would lie about the situation she's in as she's always been known for being straightforward. The biggest takeaway from this is that Lucasfilm did Gina dirty by not giving her a proper heads up about her termination and even if she "deserved" getting fired for her behavior, she should've at least been given an idea of what was coming. Well, such is life.
Meanwhile, The Mandalorian Season 3 is scheduled to begin production this April.
