George Lucas’ Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Reveals Leia as the Chosen One

It still comes as a huge surprise how George Lucas' vision for the Star Wars sequel trilogy turned out to be much different than what we ended up getting. Heck, to call it just "different" would be quite the understatement as his own sequel trilogy was originally set to feature some interesting plot twists in the Skywalker saga and then some. Apparently, George's plans called for a different spin on the famed Chosen One prophecy a lot of us are pretty much aware of by now.

Over the course of the original trilogy, it was initially believed that Luke Skywalker was the person being described in the prophecy. As it turns out, Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader was in actuality the Chosen One who would've brought back balance to the Force and it was even explained in the prequels. However, in Lucas' own vision, it was actually someone else.

According to the new book called Star Wars Archives: Eps I-III: 1999-2005 written by Paul Duncan (via Star Wars Leaks), plans called for Leia Organa to be hailed as the Chosen One at the end of the sequel trilogy. A section of the book reads: "By the end of the trilogy Luke would've rebuilt much of the Jedi, and we would have the renewal of the New Republic, with Leia, Senator Organa, becoming the Supreme Chancellor in charge of everything. So she ended up being the Chosen One." Check it out here:

George has had some questionable decisions in the past but it can't be denied that his genius brought us arguably the biggest and most successful science-fiction franchise of all time. And as odd as Leia becoming the Chosen One would've turned out to be, it's still an interesting bit that could've told a lot of new stories, and had George retained control of the franchise, it certainly would've changed the course of the entire Star Wars Universe. For the better, perhaps? We'll never truly know.
