The Star Wars franchise is experiencing quite the renaissance if you will over the last couple of years but it can't be denied that things didn't run so smoothly at the beginning following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm. Of course, we all know how the sequel trilogy left a lasting impression on fans and not a good one at that. Now, going back to the "resurgence" of the franchise, a lot of it can be credited to the creative mind of Dave Filoni who with the help of Jon Favreau was able to reinvigorate the franchise thanks to the popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
Currently, Kathleen Kennedy is still in control of the production company founded by George Lucas several decades back but according to a new rumor, he is pushing for his protege Filoni to assume control of the company when Kennedy steps down. Reddit user SpideyForever245 claims that George wants Dave to replace Kathleen as Lucasfilm head although the specifics weren't disclosed.
The user who is also known for dropping "scoops" about upcoming DCEU and MCU projects also claims that Lucas wants to get involved in the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 but Disney doesn't want him anywhere near the project. Of course, just like any rumor, take this one with a huge grain of salt.
Kathleen has had her fair share of issues especially with the handling of the Star Wars franchise and not a lot of people within the fandom are huge fans of the current Lucasfilm President. However, Disney seems to think highly of Kennedy so the chances of her actually being booted out of her position are pretty slim. But if we're being honest, if there's someone more credible to take over the company in the future, it's undoubtedly Dave Filoni but I think we'll have to wait a few more years to see that come to fruition.
Meanwhile, Star Wars' next project The Book of Boba Fett hits Disney+ this December.
