Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has always been seen by fans as an empowering individual who completely embodies what the iconic DC superhero stands for. And much like the role she plays as Diana Prince, the Israeli actress is a strong advocate of peace but yesterday, she came under fire for an emotional social media post which caused quite the controversy. Gadot broke her silence on the heated tension between her home country of Israel and Gaza which have been entangled in conflict for years now.

Taking to her official social media handles, the actress expressed her concern not only for her people but for Palestinians as well and penned a heartfelt letter calling for peace to finally prevail. She wrote: "My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people. This is a vicious cycle that has been going on for far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation, our neighbors deserve the same. I pray for the victims and their families, I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so we could live side by side in peace. I pray for better days."

The said statement wasn't well-received by fans on Twitter who lambasted the actress for her "hypocrisy". Longtime detractors of Gadot have stressed that the actress is in no position to call for unity when she's a former Israel Defense Force soldier herself. The actress even became a hot trending topic on Twitter yesterday and the backlash she received was just too intense that she was forced to disable the reply button on the said tweet.

Despite the fact that a lot of people criticized her statement, there were still fans who stood by Gal and defended the actress's sentiments. Again, I'm convinced that her intentions are pure whether fans would choose to believe it or not. The situation over at Israel and Gaza have caused a tremendous amount of panic and not to mention division among people. I pray that the tension finally subsides and I'm hopeful that peace will still be achieved. Now, as for the actress's critics, I don't think this is the right time to point fingers and focus their energies on negativity. It's not going to fix the problem.

Gal Gadot last appeared on Wonder Woman 1984.
