A lot of intrigue surrounds the future of the Black Panther franchise now that its lead star Chadwick Boseman has entered the astral plane. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige addressed the fate of its sequel during Disney's Investor Day saying that BlackPanther 2 will still happen and is set to explore more of Wakanda.

Fans have been speculating that Black Panther 2 will see a changing of the guard in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and introduce us to a new Wakandan hero. Apparently, that's not the only change that's going to happen as the sequel could mark the debut of an interesting villain who has long been associated with a different Marvel superhero team.

According to an exclusive scoop from the folks over at FandomWire, Doctor Doom is set to make his MCU debut in the sequel and the reason behind it is Kevin Feige would like to mix things up for the Fantastic Four villain's Earth-616 story. Plans still call for the character to eventually square off against Marvel's first family but as of now, we could expect Victor von Doom to turn up in Wakanda first.

This remains a massive rumor for now so take it with a grain of salt. But let's not forget that Marvel Studios has been notorious for tweaking their characters' backstories over the years so Doctor Doom having a different origin and set of adversaries wouldn't be too hard to believe. It'll be interesting though which character he'll go up against. Will it be Shuri? M'Baku? Maybe someone else? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Black Panther 2 is slated for release in 2022.
