Fans Accuse Oscars of Exploiting Chadwick Boseman’s Death Following Best Actor Snub

Heading into the 93rd Academy Awards, a lot of movie fans were expecting the late Chadwick Boseman to snag a post-humous best actor trophy for his performance as Leeve Green in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. However, the Black Panther star along with his fellow nominees Steven Yeun, Gary Oldman, and Riz Ahmed was bested by screen legend Anthony Hopkins who starred in The Father which also went home with the Best Adapted Screenplay nod.

Despite losing the Best Actor bet, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom which serves as Chadwick's final film still won two awards — Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Costume Design — but clearly, fans weren't content with the minor awards the film took home after the awarding spectacle.

Naturally, the Oscars snub for Boseman who died of colon cancer last year didn't sit well with the actor's supporters and a lot of them were genuinely appalled as they believe the honor should've gone to him instead of Hopkins who is also known for playing Odin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Check out some of the reactions below:

While I have deep respect and admiration for Chadwick's body of work, people shouldn't take anything away from Hopkins who is an exceptional actor in his own right. And honestly, I feel like letting Chadwick win the award would've felt like a forced attempt at creating a sentimental moment for his fans. That would've been an even bigger "exploitation" of his memory and legacy.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios' Black Panther 2 is in development.
