The entire Star Wars community was stunned when news broke out this week that Lucasfilm has officially fired Gina Carano from The Mandalorian. The actress has been making headlines for quite a while now with her controversial opinions regarding certain socio-political issues.
Apparently, the company was just waiting for her to commit one final mistake and as fate would have it, Carano posted yet another one of her sentiments online comparing her situation as a Republican to being a Jew trapped during the Holocaust. The said "tasteless" post garnered tons of negative feedback from fans who have long been calling for her to be removed from Star Wars.
In an even more shocking turn of events, Carano's co-star and The Mandalorian lead actor Pedro Pascal is also being dragged into the controversy after his tweet from three years ago which also happens to compare the United States to Nazi Germany resurfaced. After his tweet (which has since been deleted) went viral once again, fans started a #FirePedroPascal movement which has gained attention all over social media.
Gina Carano's avid supporters are coming to the actress defense and according to them, the former MMA fighter is a victim of Hollywood's double standards. A lot of them are convinced that if she was fired from the franchise for her offensive posts, so should Pascal. Check out some of the reactions below:
The Gina Carano firing is wrong. The double standard is strong with this one.— EnglishD4Life (@joshniese) February 12, 2021
If Gina Carano can get fired for voicing her opinion, then Pedro Pascal should also get fired for voicing his but the double standard amirite? #CancelDisneyPlus— Âdrįáñ Ęrńêstō Fõñsęçå Hïrzêl (@RAdriFonsi) February 12, 2021
Fired Gina Carano because she made political statements comparing the US Political Climate to Nazi Germany although Pedro Pascal compared Children in Cages to the Holocaust. It’s a fucked up double standard. Because he didn’t get backlash while she was fired.— Carter?? (@FlaKZera) February 12, 2021
I've seen some weird shit in my time, but #Disney hypocrisy, lies, double standards and above everything - pure HATRED towards their fans boggles the mind! ?@ginacarano is one of the BEST and BRIGHTEST things in contemporary #StarWars. #GinaCarano— .?ⵎ⎕ (@hdimit11) February 12, 2021
They fired @ginacarano for stating facts and making a fair comparison about what's going on in politics. I'm so tired of the double standards. You can only have an opinion if certain people agree with it. #FreedomOfSpeech #CancelDisneyPlus— Joel long (@Joellong16) February 12, 2021
#CancelDisneyPlusThat's double-standard BS. @ginacarano deserves better.— Elyse Meyers (@ElyseMeyers) February 11, 2021
So it's totally okay equating 'Someone who disagrees with you' to 'Someone willing to commit Genocide',
but it's NOT OKAY simply bringing up HOW the historical Genocide happened in the first place?!?!
We've yet to hear the side of both parties but as it stands, it looks like Lucasfilm has no plans of reversing their decision over Carano's newsmaking termination. On the other hand, it doesn't seem like they're all that bothered with the backlash Pascal has been getting as of late. Now, whether you believe Pascal also deserves to be removed from The Mandalorian, I'll leave that one up to you.
Speaking of, The Mandalorian's third season is set to begin filming this April.
