If it wasn't obvious enough, the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be exploring the wonders of the multiverse and we're already getting hints of it through WandaVision. It also looks like the third Spider-Man film will also be dealing with threats from outside Earth-616 but that's just the tip of the iceberg as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promises to be the film where all the mayhem will ensue.

As it stands, we still don't know what happens in the upcoming sequel but it's already been established that WandaVision will be responsible for the film's events. With the term "multiverse" in its title, it's already safe to assume that we may be getting several character debuts in the project and according to a new rumor, we can expect something huge to go down.

According to an exclusive scoop from Giant Freakin Robot, Doctor Strange 2 will see the MCU debut of one of Marvel Comics' most elite superteams the Illuminati. In the comics, the Illuminati is a secret organization consisting of members Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Black Bolt, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Mr. Fantastic, and Professor X.

The report claims that Namor, Reed Richards, and Charles Xavier will all be appearing in the film with Blackagar Boltagon intriguingly being excluded. If the rumors end up becoming true, we're already getting 4/6 of the original Illuminati. However, it's a complete bummer that Tony Stark won't be able to join the MCU's version of the organization but hey, it is what it is.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is slated for release in 2022.
