The entire COVID-19 situation has undoubtedly changed our viewing habits and during the height of the pandemic where cinemas temporarily closed their doors, production companies were left without a choice but to employ a brand new strategy by making films available on streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max. What seemed to be like a huge gamble ultimately paid off considering films like Mulan, Soul, Wonder Woman 1984, and Zack Snyder's Justice League still attracted a lot of viewers.

As more and more theaters are once again starting to operate full-time, it looks like Warner Bros. will maintain the same strategy for their upcoming film slate. According to a report from Los Angeles Times, the upcoming Blue Beetle film which has been in development for years will no longer be hitting cinemas. Instead, the project, which is dubbed as a "mid-budget film" will head straight to HBO Max.

Other projects like the upcoming solo Batgirl film will suffer the same fate while big-budgeted films such as The Batman, Aquaman 2, and Black Adam will all have theatrical releases. It's quite unfortunate that Blue Beetle has apparently been relegated to streaming but it can't be denied that not a lot of casual fans are aware of who the character actually is. WB is probably just taking a precautionary step as they wouldn't want for the film to be a box office flop because let's face it, Blue Beetle is no Superman or Batman.

No official release date has been announced for Blue Beetle.
