To a lot of fans, Henry Cavill is the definitive version of Superman but the actor's true status in the DC Extended Universe remains a huge mystery at this point. Rumors have been swirling all over the internet for years now that Warner Bros. doesn't have anything planned for the Justice League actor despite the clamor from fans to give Cavill his well-deserved Man of Steel 2.

In February, WarnerMedia announced plans for a Superman reboot which is intended to become part of the DCEU continuity. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, while the project which will be produced by Star Wars director J.J. Abrams is still moving forward, WB is changing some of its plans. Instead of it featuring either Calvin Ellis or Val Zod as the heroic Kryptonian, the project will now tell the story of a black Clark Kent and the film will no longer be set in the DCEU.

Intriguingly, the Superman reboot plans were announced on the day of Henry Cavill's 38th birthday, and naturally, fans weren't thrilled with WB seemingly raining on the actor's parade on purpose. Check out some of the reactions below:

Honestly, I'm not sure what to feel about the upcoming Superman reboot but it's evident that WB is adamant about redoing their DC franchise and going back to square one. Sure, the DCEU will likely still be intact but films like The Batman and the aforementioned Man of Steel reboot indicate that the production company wants to give things a different approach in hopes of finally cracking the code.

Meanwhile, Zack Snyder's Justice League is still streaming on HBO Max.
