Say what you will about the DC Extended Universe but the franchise has proven over the last couple of years that it can still get things right. The first Shazam! film pretty much proves that fact and following the generally positive reception it generated in 2019, Warner Bros. immediately greenlit the sequel. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, production for the film had to be delayed on more than one occasion. Thankfully, the sequel was able to kickstart production earlier this year and just like that, filming has wrapped up faster than you can say the magic word.

Taking to social media, director David F. Sandberg officially confirmed that Shazam! Fury of the Gods has completed filming after over two months of work. Sandberg didn't give away too much and as it stands, we don't know yet when they'll begin with the post-production but considering the film isn't going to hit cinemas until sometime in 2023, the people behind the film certainly have all the extra time in the world.

Following Sandberg's exciting update, DC fans couldn't help but feel ecstatic about the new development, and with DC FanDome right around the corner, it would be safe to assume that we'll get more than just behind-the-scenes goodies from the sequel.

It's quite a bummer that we have to wait two more years before witnessing the Big Red Cheese's return to the big screen but it is what it is. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if WB actually fast-tracked the project considering it has already finished filming but on the other hand, giving the post-production team a long time to work on the project will end up being more beneficial to everyone so yeah, I guess we really have to wait.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit cinemas in June 2023.
