The 93rd edition of the Academy Awards may have been quite the spectacle but it was also plagued with controversy after Chadwick Boseman lost the best actor award to Anthony Hopkins. Film fans, especially those who were expecting Boseman to take home the recognition weren't pleased with the results claiming the Black Panther star was snubbed. A lot of them even went as far as accusing the award-giving body of exploiting the actor's untimely passing last year.
Now, a few days removed from the ceremony, Boseman's family is breaking their silence after the matter caused an issue all over the internet. TMZ caught up with Chadwick's brother Derrick after the Oscars wrapped up and he says that the late actor's family isn't upset. In fact, they even congratulated the acting legend for winning the best actor award.
He also reiterated that there wasn't a "snub" that took place during the ceremony as all of the actors nominated, including Hopkins who won the trophy for his performance in The Father were all deserving. Derrick would later say that his brother didn't put too much value in winning the award to begin with.
As much as a potential Chadwick Boseman win would've been an emotional and sentimental moment for everyone, fans shouldn't take anything away from Hopkins as well as the other nominees who put their hearts and souls in their respective films. I believe the Oscar committee was fair with its judgment and honestly, if Chadwick actually won, there will still be fans who will complain about it being a forced attempt at honoring the actor. What I'm trying to say is, no matter the outcome, people will still try to find something to whine about.
Meanwhile, Black Panther 2 is in the works.
