Scarlett Johansson is set to end her Marvel Cinematic Universe tenure with a bang and whether people would like to accept it or not, her upcoming solo film Black Widow will undoubtedly serve as her parting gift to her fans who have supported Natasha Romanoff's MCU journey for over a decade.

Of course, rumors are running rampant for months now that Nat could eventually find herself back in the franchise but if you were to ask the actress, the assassin-turned-Avenger's story wraps up in the film.

In a recent conversation with ComicBook, Johansson said that she's very happy with how her decade-long stint in the billion-dollar franchise turned out while also implying that Black Widow will in fact mark the end of her playing the fan-favorite hero.

She said: "Honestly, I feel like it's always, it feels great to leave a party when it's still raging and I think that this film feels very much like it's alive and fresh and powerful and I feel really pleased with it. I feel really happy with the work that we've done for this decade of time and, you know, it's bittersweet to say, 'Goodbye,' but if you love something, you need to set it free!'"

I'll be interesting to see how Black Widow ends considering the project is set between the events of Captain: America Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War but hey, it's Marvel Studios we're talking about so expect to see them pull a few surprises up their sleeve.

Also, it's hard to tell if the film will be able to tap into the aftermath of Natasha's tragic death in Avengers: Endgame but I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out. One thing's for sure though, if the film will indeed mark the final time we see Romanoff, it'll be hella emotional.

Black Widow hits cinemas and Disney+ on July 7, 2021.
