The future of the entire Black Panther film series is still being determined following the passing of its lead star, Chadwick Boseman, last August. For a couple of months now, Marvel Studios has been in an unenviable position of deciding whether to push through with the project or not but according to recent reports, Black Panther 2 will in fact be happening and a new development suggests that a grand changing of the guard will take place.

Without a doubt, Letitia Wright aka Shuri is the sentimental favorite to become T'Challa's successor but according to the good folks over at Geekosity, Winston Duke's character M'Baku could also be in the running to become the next King of Wakanda and take on the Black Panther mantle. The report claims that in Black Panther 2, both Shuri and M'Baku will go head-to-head to fight for the right to become the new Wakandan hero.

For now, we should take everything with a grain of salt but it wouldn't be too farfetched to believe that the two MCU characters are poised for bigger roles in the sequel as it is a logical thing for Marvel Studios to do. My money is currently on Shuri but I wouldn't exactly count out M'Baku's chances of becoming the next Black Panther because he's proven in the past that he'd be a pretty valuable ally for the Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Black Panther 2 was originally set to begin production earlier this year.
