The Black Panther franchise will never be the same without Chadwick Boseman and while his untimely demise in 2020 sure left a massive void in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will be hard to fill, Marvel Studios is still determined to honor and continue T'Challa's legacy the way the actor would have wanted to. Earlier this year, the studio confirmed that they're moving forward with the sequel which was originally set to begin filming before Chadwick passed on.
Officially titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, we still know very little about the upcoming sequel as it's shrouded by mystery but Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige clarified right off the bat that they won't be recasting Chadwick Boseman. This of course suggests that Wakanda Forever will address the death of T'Challa in some sort of manner.
Production has apparently kickstarted for the film as confirmed by Feige himself during the Global Premiere and Fan Event of Black Widow. According to the Marvel Studios patriarch (Variety), while it's going to be hard without the late actor, they're excited to revisit Wakanda and make Chadwick proud. He said: "It’s clearly very emotional without Chad... But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud."
It's hard to tell where the entire direction of the franchise will be taken but it's safe to assume that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will introduce us to the official successor of T'Challa. A lot of fans believe Shuri is the rightful heir to the Wakandan throne and understandably so but there are people who are actually toying with the idea of Killmonger being brought back to life to get his own redemption story, honoring his former rival in the process. Whatever route the studio chooses to take, one thing's for sure, Black Panther 2 will be beyond emotional.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits cinemas in 2022.
