Aquaman 2 hasn't even started production yet but according to the latest rumors, a third Aquaman film has already been greenlit by DC and Warner Bros. Pictures. Of course, this comes as no surprise anymore considering the first one did extremely well and even became the DC Extended Universe's first film to cross 1 billion dollars at the box office, a record that other DCEU projects have yet to match.
As it stands, we still know very little about the upcoming sequel but we reported last month that Aquaman 2 could shift its focus to girl power and feminism which suggests that Amber Heard's character Mera will have a more prominent role in the project.
Of course, we all know how controversial the actress is these days and she's very much aware of it. However, despite the fact that DC and Warner Bros. seem to be adamant about keeping Heard in the DCEU, the actress reportedly still wants to make sure that she remains in the franchise amid the growing backlash towards her.
In a new scoop from insider Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Amber is reportedly trying to secure a deal that would see her return in Aquaman 3, possibly in fear of getting replaced. Key details about the deal weren't disclosed. Now, if the rumors are in fact true, this could mean that Amber feels threatened about her spot in the DCEU being taken away from her.
And with other studios taking action over their actors' personal issues (case in point Gina Carano's controversial firing from Lucasfilm), Heard has every reason in the world to be worried. It also doesn't help that the petition calling for her firing from the franchise is close to getting 2 million signatures.
Meanwhile, Aquaman 2 is set to begin production this Summer.
