After experiencing several production delays over the last couple of months, cameras have started rolling for Amazon's The Lord of the Rings prequel series and while we still know very little about it so far, the highly-anticipated series is already looking very promising with a lot of talented directors set to helm episodes for Season 1. Taking a page out of shows like Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian, the upcoming Lord of the Rings show will feature more than one director helming each episode. So far, JA Bayona and Wayne Che Yip have been tasked to direct a few episodes for the first season.

Now, the series which is expected to hit Amazon's streaming service sometime this year has added a major backup in the form of acclaimed Swedish-French director Charlotte Brändström whose 30-year career highlights an impressive body of work which includes projects like The Man in the High Castle, The Witcher. and Netflix's newest superhero offering Jupiter's Legacy.

"I'm very excited to be guided through Middle-earth by JD's and Patrick's vision and immerse myself in the iconic world of J.R.R. Tolkien," the director said in a statement (via ComicBook). "It's a great privilege to be in New Zealand to work with Amazon Studios' outstanding ensemble of creative talents." As of writing, other details about Brändström's episodes have not been disclosed.

The project has been in developmental hell for a number of years and despite the fact that Amazon originally gained the television rights for The Lord of the Rings, the prequel series is only starting to pick up steam. Considering LOTR is one of the most beloved and significant fantasy franchises of all time, all the pressure in the world is undoubted with the studio to make things work but I'm pretty confident they'll pull this one off.

The official release date for Amazon's The Lord of the Rings TV show has yet to be confirmed. If you are looking for where to watch The Lord of the Rings, it is currently streaming on HBO Max and Hulu.
