The entire Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom was filled with excitement as rumors floated yesterday that Marvel Studios has finally found the actor who will play the live-action version of Namor the Submariner in the billion-dollar franchise. Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta has reportedly signed on to play the iconic Marvel Comics character and will serve as the main villain of the upcoming Phase 4 offering Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
However, instead of getting a grand hero's welcome from the fandom, Huerta was greeted by good old cancel culture. Despite all the buzz surrounding Huerta's rumored MCU casting, the Narcos: Mexico star is apparently already drawing flak on social media over alleged "problematic" tweets. The said tweets, originally written in Spanish are said to contain subjects about homophobia, racism, and misogyny.
NAMOR actor homophobic, racist and a misogynist how fo you manage to offend everybody??? oh brother pic.twitter.com/MqpZEMrBtA— `jo (@scarIetnova) June 7, 2021

I heard rumors that Tenoch Huerta is going to be playing Namor. The least Marvel could do is choose somone that isn't homophobic, victim blaming, and racist... please do better Marvel...— PIXELATEJAKE (@PIXELATEJAKE_) June 7, 2021
Wait they cast Namor already and he’s homophobic????— Rene (@BattinsonRise) June 7, 2021
i found out the namor actor is homophobic on my tl before i even found out someone was officially cast as namor— dahlia (@starsandgxrters) June 7, 2021
The "Namor is rumoured to be in Black Panther 2" -> "Namor is rumoured to be played by this guy" -> "Here are the guy who's rumoured to be playing Namor's homophobic tweets" cascade was faster than I expected— Al Kennedy (@housetoastonish) June 7, 2021
crying the namor casting hasn't even been up 30 minutes and they already found the homophobic tweets— nina ?! (@castlevcnia) June 7, 2021
Other fans quickly came to the actor's defense, claiming that the said tweets were mistranslated and that the actor is just being sarcastic. According to them, the accusations some fans are throwing at Huerta are completely baseless.
Mexican guy cast as Namor and his name is Tenoch.— carlos magana (@carlsmagana) June 8, 2021
He made homophobic, transphobic, racist tweet.
Turns out it's a sarcastic tweet ridiculing conservatives.
People calling for him to be fired are being weirdly racist about it.
Can I go now.
I don't know if the guy rumored to play Namor actually said homophobic stuff or not, but I do know a lot people are jumping on it extremely quickly and using it as an excuse to push a bunch of exclusively light-skinned actors to play Namor instead.— Stephan Krosecz (@Krosecz) June 7, 2021
Which seems weird to me.
People cancelled the guy playing namor because google translated his anti-homophobia/transphobia tweets into something homophobic and transphobic?— dr. mikannibal fan (@SunkenStoneShip) June 7, 2021
Twitter: “Omg the person cast as Namor tweeted something homophobic”— soft boi (@CloudTapia) June 7, 2021

I mean, it doesn't come as a surprise anymore and for some strange reason, I saw something like this happening from a mile away. That's canceled culture for you. I gotta say though, with Huerta's tweets being taken out of context, it's quite embarrassing that some people are still insisting that he did and said something wrong when the proof is already there. Goes to show that more and more people are having a closed mind and there's nothing to blame but this disease known as to cancel culture.
Meanwhile, Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm Tenoch's involvement in Black Panther 2 and it'll be interesting to see if the current backlash he's experiencing will affect his potential MCU role. I'm guessing no because the folks over at Marvel are smart enough.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated for release sometime in 2022.
