How The Grinch Stole Christmas, originally slated for release on November 10, 2017, has now been moved to a release date of November 9, 2018, according to The Wrap.
Based on the popular Dr. Seuss children's book, the animated How The Grinch Stole Christmas, is handled by Universal and Illumination, which is the brains behind Minions.
The studios previously announced the animated movie adaptation during April's CinemaCon. They also declared their Grinch star to be Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Doctor Strange), since the 39-year-old actor's voice exudes "comedic wickedness while embodying vulnerability," according to producer Chris Meledandri.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas will be helmed both by Pete Candeland (Gorillaz) and Yarrow Cheney (The Secret Life of Pets), from a script by Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree).
The story of the Grinch follows the titular character trying to ruin the holiday spirit from the Whos in the town of Whoville. He dons a Santa costume he made himself, and together with his dog Max, he goes down to Whoville in an attempt to destroy their Christmas. However, he meets Cindy-Lou Who along the way, and his perception of the holidays will forever be changed.
The move from November 2017 to 2018 seems like a good move for the film since its former release date means that the movie will have to compete with superhero franchise films – Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League: Part One. There's no competition yet for its new release schedule, but we'll just have to wait and see whether How The Grinch Stole Christmas will be able to stand its ground in the following months.
