Excluding the pandemic, the year 2020 has brought Kdrama fans a lot to look forward to. From satisfying rom-com such as Crash Landing On You and The King: Eternal Monarch to season 2 of Kingdom and Love Alarm, we can say that Kdramas became an oasis to viewers.

In the latter half of 2020, another Kdrama was released for a treat. Record of Youth stars groundbreaking actors Park Bo Gum and Park So Dam. The series was produced by Studio Dragon and Pan Entertainment and was aired on tvN from September 7 to October 27, 2020. Record of Youth is available for streaming on Netflix.

Record of Youth storyline and ending recap

Record of Youth tells the story of ambitious young individuals who strive their best to make it big in their chosen industries. Despite coming from two different social classes, Hye Jun and Hae Ho are as tight as best friends and became popular models who bought are also trying to hit it big as actors. Jeong Ha is a makeup artist who also shares her knowledge about makeup through vlogging.

As Hye Jun and Jeong Ha cross paths together, they eventually fell in love with each other. Aside from scenes that tackle the heartwarming support that love can bring, Record of Youth discusses the cruelty of the real world where dominating the top of the pyramid is everything.

Things start to get complicated when Hye Jun's career takes on heights. He suddenly rose to fame which causes his personal relationships to stumble, specifically, breaking up with Jeong Ha. Record of Youth perhaps taught viewers that fame always comes with a price, and it's sometimes scary.

After coming to a difficult decision, Hye Jun enlists in the military to leave his shining fame behind. Jeong Ha became a famous makeup artist with major film and drama projects. All were suddenly falling back into place but the love still lingers until after 2 years, Hye Jun gets discharged from the military and reunites with Jeong Ha.

One of the leads, Park Bo Gum, rose to fame in 2015 with his groundbreaking role in the slice-of-life Kdrama Reply 1988. His unrivaled position in the Korean drama industry led him to solidified fame with the historical romance Love in the Moonlight.

Record of Youth is Park Bo Gum's return on the small-screen after Encounter with Song Hye Kyo which was released in 2018. Park Bo Gum also made a surprising cameo at the last episode of Itaewon Class.

Park So Dam made her name with her role as a possessed schoolgirl in the 2015 South Korean movie The Priests. Her career followed with a role in the series Cinderella and the Four Knights. What made Park So Dam known internationally was for her role as Kim Ki-jung in the 2019 comedy thriller film Parasite, which earned the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Will Record of Youth have a season 2?

The first season might have left viewers with a bitter-sweet ending, so many are hoping for a season 2. But, because Park Bo Gum enlisted in the military months after season 1's ending, it was hard to see a second season coming in the works. As of now, there are no official announcements from neither Studio Dragon nor Netflix for season 2 of Record of Youth.

Where to watch Record of Youth Kdrama with English subtitles?

Kdrama fans can watch Record of Youth through online streaming on Netflix. The series has a total of 16 episodes and all have English subtitles. Record of Youth aired on tvN every Monday and Tuesday at 9:00 PM KST from September 7 until October 27, 2020.
