2017’s Logan was the perfect sendoff for Hugh Jackman in the X-franchise, and though the movie stands well on its own, Fox had planned for a sequel with X-23.
While promoting the release of His Dark Materials Season 2, Dafne Keen tells Elle that she was hearing about plans for a Logan sequel while they were working on the movie. She says:
“I got told by some people at Fox that there might be another one, but this was ages ago when we were filming, and they haven't contacted me ever again… I feel like we're just at the beginning, there’s more to be told, and it's a relay race… I come into play when they've already written and done pre-production and decided on doing the film, so as soon as they say, ‘go,’ I'll happily go whenever.”
Seeing that the movie was so well-received, it would have made sense for Fox to pursue the story of this new Wolverine, but since the merger with Disney, all the plans kind of fell apart.
If there is a bright side though, it looks like there are some elements that will be salvaged from the old Fox X-franchise. Ryan Reynolds’ next Deadpool film is already in the works with the MCU, and it’s possible that more elements from that universe could be brought back—depending on what works.
In the meantime, Keen has been keeping herself busy with His Dark Materials, and the second season is had already premiered on HBO.
The next episode comes out on December 6.
