Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins has been Working on Rogue Squadron ‘For a While’

It seemed like the announcement last week of Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins helming Star Wars: Rogue Squadron came out of nowhere, and a lot of people are curious about what's in store for her project. Despite all this focus on Wonder Woman 1984, it turns out that Jenkins has actually been working on Rogue Squadron for a while.

Talking to Collider, Jenkins reveals that she has been working with a secret screenwriter on the film for a while.' She says:

"We're very far into the — we're finishing the treatment basically, which is pretty big. So it ends up being like where you're fairly close to a well-along screenplay by the time I'm done with the treatment in my process. So yeah, we've been working on it for a while. It's going great. I'm super excited about it. I'm super excited about the story."

We don't really know the scope of the movie yet, but we can only imagine that it's going to be as big as you can expect Star Wars to be. With the smaller anthology stories set to release on Disney+ instead, it would make sense that Lucasfilm would be preparing something ‘huge' for Star Wars' return to the big screen.

While I personally would have loved to stay in the Sequel era, I have no doubt that Jenkins has an interesting story to tell with Rogue Squadron. With a Rogue Squadron already existing in Legends, I'm curious if she's going to come up with a new roster or loosely base this film on past source material.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is expected to come out on December 22, 2023. In the meantime, catch Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 25.
